What are the deadlines if I want to graduate this semester?
Applications to graduate are always due the third Friday of the semester. This is true whether you plan to walk in the ceremony or use the End-of-Semester deadline. You must defend your thesis/dissertation/DMA document no later than the posted deadlines for the semester of graduation. You must submit your final dissertation/DMA document in electronic PDF format, have it accepted, and turn in all related forms and fees no later than the posted deadlines for the semester of graduation. Specific dates for each academic semester are available online or in 247 University Hall.
Can I graduate this semester but walk in the ceremony another semester?
No, with one exception. Students have the opportunity to walk at commencement the semester they apply to graduate and complete degree requirements. The only exception is for End-of-Semester students, who can walk at commencement the semester immediately following the completion of degree requirements.
What is the latest that I can defend and still graduate?
To be eligible to graduate, you must to defend no later than the posted deadlines for the semester of graduation. If you are using the End-of-Semester deadline (to receive your degree next semester without having to pay fees), you must have all degree requirements completed by the last business day before classes start for next semester.
For how many hours do I have to register?
In order to graduate with either a master’s degree or doctoral degree, you must be registered for at least three graduate credit hours. Audit hours do not count. In general, GAAs, GRAs, and GTAs are required to register for eight graduate credit hours per semester (except summer when it is four), but post-candidacy exam GAAs, GRAs, and GTAs are required to register for three graduate hours. International students on a visa should consult with the Office of International Education about enrollment criteria.
How do I cancel my application to graduate for this semester?
There are several ways to cancel your graduation: Stop by Graduation Services in 247 University Hall and complete the Cancel Graduation form, call Graduation Services at (614) 292-6031, or send an e-mail (be sure to include your name, student id number, and degree) to Graduation Services. Canceling removes your name from the current commencement list, but your application (and Master Examination Report form) is good through the last business day before the start of next semester’s classes (the End-of-Semester deadline). If you do not meet the End-of-Semester deadline, you must submit a new Application to Graduate the semester you plan to finish and be enrolled for at least three graduate credit hours.
I want to graduate but not attend commencement. How do I do that?
You must complete a Commencement Absence form and turn it in to Graduation Services at the Graduate School at least two weeks prior to commencement.
I am a graduating student and am changing my name. What do I need to do?
Name changes must be submitted to the Student Consolidated Services Center, Student Academic Services Building, 281 West Lane Avenue. Legal proof of your name will be required. Request for Change of Records form.
